It was in early 2011 that I came to the realization that what I loved doing was working out and being at the gym. I love the atmosphere of the gym. In general, people are friendly, motivated, and trying to live a healthier lifestyle. When I first moved here I spent hours a day at the local YMCA. It's probably no surprise that most of my good friends are or once were members here. I decided to study and get my personal training certification. I was also easily inspired by my instructor and friend Randi to teach group fitness classes. I saw the influence that she had on so many people there and I wanted to be that to others too. It all started out with one client and subbing classes here and there.
Fast forward to now and I have a full schedule of personal training clients whom I look forward to working with each week. Building relationships with them as I help them build muscles and reach their goals is probably my favorite part. I love encouraging and motivating them to work to their full potential. They have a love/hate relationship with me and I am totally fine with that! 😉
I am also currently teaching 6 different classes where I have created my own little following. It's really hard for me to go anywhere without running into someone I know from the Y. It's funny, I get the same reaction from them that a child would give their teacher if they see them at a store...."Wait, you don't live at school/gym?" or "Oh, I didn't recognize you with normal clothes."
I often get called out by my clients or students for smiling so much during their workouts. They tease and say that I enjoy "torturing" them. This is kind of true. I enjoy that they keep coming back for more! I have my days when I wonder if what I do is making a difference and then someone will hug me after class to thank me or someone will share a non-scale victory with me. Those simple words speak volumes to me and are so encouraging. I hope my clients and students realize how inspiring THEY are to ME!
Since moving to North Carolina I have been a Pepsi pourer, baseball stadium worker, nanny, dog sitter, caterer, engraver and trophy maker, and 31 consultant. Each job has given me wonderful experiences and lifelong friendships that have played a part in who I am still becoming, but health and fitness has my heart. 💕
